The self exists by proxy, concealing;
a presence that is embryonic, infantile -
of a self that might have been but never
got born. Princess Pea’s practice through
performance, image, prose and poetry
is consistently in the quest of this self,
this unborn presence, perhaps as proxy.
Rehearsing in Acts, Princess Pea’s proxies
are actors who instill themselves and their
lived lives and personal legends in the
character of Princess Pea – a mould that
anybody could fit in – or carry, substitute,
present and represent themselves in.
They emulate the act of living in and claiming
of personal forts of the feminine heart. Using
the home as a simile and setting for the heart
to play its desires, the Princesses are engaged
in collecting time, memory, desire, hope,
perseverance and ultimately destiny.
